Warsh affirms Fed’s inflation focus

The U.S. Federal Reserve has kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at a range between 3.5% and 3.75%, despite opposition from three of its members to any increase. The decision aims to monitor inflation, which recently declined by 0.4% in June due to falling gasoline prices but later rose again owing to fluctuations in Middle Eastern markets. Chairman Jerome Powell clarified that monetary policy will remain data-dependent, and the Fed will not provide preemptive signals about the future path of interest rates. The focus remains on achieving the 2% inflation target, and this decision marks the beginning of an ongoing review of Federal Reserve policies. This move comes amid increasing discussions within the committee about the need to raise rates to combat persistent inflation, while markets remain attentive to economic data developments. The Fed reaffirmed its commitment to price stability.
