The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has warned of an escalation in Israeli settlers’ attacks and the expansion of settlement activity in the West Bank, following the issuance of the International Court of Justice’s ruling in 2024 that declared the Israeli presence in the occupied Palestinian territories illegal and called for its cessation. She reported that since last Thursday, eight Palestinians, including a child, have been killed, as settlers and occupation forces carried out attacks on Palestinian communities, involving assaults on residents, destruction of property, and the burning of mosques. Restrictions on movement and access to essential services have also been intensified. The Commission expressed concern over the escalating statements by the Israeli government regarding settlement expansion, calls for revenge, and warned of an increasing humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, where health challenges are worsening, and access to water and sanitation services is declining. The UN continues its efforts to provide support and improve humanitarian conditions.
