Global protests oppose Infantino's plans
The plan by FIFA President Gianni Infantino to establish a company responsible for managing the sport's commercial activities and organizing the World Cup in a more centralized manner has faced rejection and opposition from many European and Asian sports organizations. The plan includes securing a share of external investments amounting to up to $4.2 billion, with the provision of funding to lower-income associations—up to $20 million for each association on a temporary basis. The proposal has been criticized by the European Union, which emphasized the need to protect the principles of fair competition and sports integrity, as well as by the Asian Football Confederation, which was not consulted about the plan. They stressed the importance of transparency and prior dialogue to ensure the interests of global football are safeguarded. Concerns have also been raised about commercializing the sport, conflicts of financial interests with FIFA's authority, and worries regarding compliance with competition laws and good governance.
