The historic Jabal Maghas Fortress in the Jazan region rests atop the highest peak of Jabal Al Haqou in Bisha Governorate, northeast of the area. It is considered a valuable archaeological and touristic landmark with significant historical importance, dating back to ancient times and having witnessed various civilizations over the ages. Built from sedimentary stones, it covers an area of approximately 2,000 square meters and stands nearly 800 meters above the neighboring summit. The fortress is surrounded by stone walls and sturdy fortifications. Historically, it was used to monitor movements during tribal conflicts before the unification of the Kingdom, and it also housed a garrison from an ancient state. The site features two entrances, residential buildings, a small mosque, a weapons depot, wells, and observation openings. The relevant authorities have refurbished the site by constructing paved roads, lighting, and tourism facilities to enhance its presence as a historical site that attracts visitors, offering a distinctive view over agricultural lands and the Tufsha Valley.
