The article discusses Jeddah's efforts to enhance its stormwater drainage system through the implementation and development of numerous projects. These efforts include the construction of five new stations, as well as upgrading existing networks, channels, and control facilities, with the aim of improving the city's capacity to efficiently and sustainably manage and drain rainwater. Some projects have achieved high levels of completion, such as the Tiba and Al-Firdaws stations, which reached 98% and 99% completion rates respectively, while work is ongoing on other projects. These works involve upgrading existing networks and connecting new ones to the current system, as well as constructing lines, pipes, and water passages. Additionally, efforts are underway to improve control facilities like pumps and gates to strengthen the network’s ability to prevent water accumulation, reduce the impact of rain on traffic flow and infrastructure, and focus on operations and maintenance using digital systems to ensure the network is prepared before rainfall events. These initiatives aim to reduce water pooling, improve traffic flow, and support the sustainability of urban services amid ongoing urban growth and increasing population density in Jeddah.
