Indicators and Their Flaws
The article discusses the error of indicators in measurement and evaluation, highlighting that numbers and data do not always reflect the true quality or the complete reality. They are influenced by factors such as time, selection, averages, and the transformation of the indicator from a measurement tool into an end in itself. The article explains that indicators often provide a partial view of reality, and relying heavily on them can lead to misleading results, especially when they are asked to convey more than they can actually represent. It emphasizes that the solution lies in using a combination of information sources, understanding the limitations of each indicator, and not depending on a single figure. It also stresses the importance of being cautious so that indicators do not become an end in themselves, but rather tools to support decision-making and achieve goals.
