The article discusses how the Houthi militia exploits the celebrations of the Prophet's birthday as a means to collect funds and impose levies in the areas under their control in Yemen. The group imposes taxes and tolls on commercial institutions and individuals in the name of supporting the celebration, employing coercive methods to gather contributions falsely attributed to religious events. They also divert state resources and private sector assets to serve their interests, concealing the total amount of money collected. Meanwhile, they continue to tighten restrictions on citizens by imposing fees, decorations, and levies that cause suffering through shortages of essential services and basic necessities, all while the group's wealth grows and pockets of poverty and marginalization remain unaddressed.
