Google has announced that it has renamed Lake Ontario on its maps within the United States to "Lake America," following an executive order by U.S. President Donald Trump to rechristen the body of water. This move reflects the tensions between the United States and Canada. The original name, "Lake Ontario," will continue to appear for users in Canada, amidst protests from the Canadian government and Prime Minister Mark Carney, who emphasized that Canadians will always call the lake by its historical name. Additionally, Ontario Premier Doug Ford removed a commemorative plaque titled "Lake Ontario" in the Hamilton area as a symbol of rejecting the American decision and escalating the tensions between the two countries.
