Ethiopian backing for RSF grows
The article highlights the escalating military tensions between the Sudanese forces, particularly the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, against the backdrop of field developments in the Blue Nile region. An unprecedented Ethiopian military buildup near the Sudanese border has increased the likelihood of a broader escalation. The Sudanese forces have deployed additional reinforcements to reclaim control over vital areas such as Bakhuri, while satellite images show a significant rise in Ethiopian military activity, with hundreds of heavy vehicles amassed and a growing possibility of an imminent attack on the city of Damazin. This escalation appears to be part of strategic goals aimed at dispersing the Sudanese army forces. These developments come amid official attempts to reassure the population, but the Ethiopian military buildup raises concerns of an regional escalation that could further threaten regional security.
