New Cooling Fabric Reflects 87.6% of Sun
A research team from Chengdu University and the University of Adelaide has developed a lavender-colored cooling fabric that features a technology reflecting 87.6% of solar radiation. This makes it significantly cooler compared to regular cotton and reduces temperature rises by up to 8 degrees Celsius when exposed directly to sunlight. The fabric relies on nanoscale fibers containing an organic metal-organic framework material and zinc oxide nanoparticles, which aid in rejecting solar heat and quickly dissipating heat through infrared radiation. This invention represents an effective solution that does not require air conditioning, providing protection for people in hot environments by reducing heat retention, and offers improved cooling performance compared to regular cotton, which achieves much less reduction.
