Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced plans to launch its cloud region in Saudi Arabia this coming December, with an investment of $5.3 billion (around 20 billion riyals). This is part of capital expenditures exceeding $10.3 billion in the Kingdom. The cloud region will encompass three independent availability zones to support the needs of the government and local businesses for storing and processing data, in compliance with regulatory and security requirements. Studies project that reliance on cloud services in Saudi Arabia could generate an economic value of up to $191 billion by 2033. The company is also promoting AI projects, including the establishment of a dedicated AI region in Riyadh with investments exceeding $5 billion, and providing Arabic language models and AI technologies to expand the market. AWS aims to train 100,000 Saudis and Arabs in cloud computing and AI, enhance local talent, and expand their partnerships with local and international companies to support digital transformation in the Kingdom.
