A recent study indicates that the increasing reliance on artificial intelligence tools in writing contributes to reducing linguistic diversity and leads texts to conform more closely to standardized criteria and styles. This trend threatens individual differences in expression and the personal identity of writers. Researchers analyzed approximately 80,000 research papers, 400,000 articles, and 300,000 Reddit posts, and the results showed that AI models decrease the variation in text complexity by between 21% and 50%. Additionally, the accuracy of predicting writers' personal and social characteristics dropped by up to 6% after texts were edited using AI models. This raises concerns about its impact on cognitive diversity and the ability to think independently, especially among students and groups with developing cognitive skills. The researchers emphasize the importance of promoting critical thinking and using AI consciously to preserve individuality and diversity in writing.
