UBS cautions on geopolitical risks in markets
Sergio Ermotti, CEO of Swiss bank UBS, warned that financial markets are neglecting the geopolitical and economic risks despite the escalating turmoil. He pointed out that current fluctuations are much lower than the actual challenges, thanks to investments in artificial intelligence and data centers that have helped support growth and mitigate the impact of crises such as the Iran and Ukraine wars, the trade tensions between Washington and Beijing, as well as inflation and rising borrowing costs. He emphasized that investors are preparing for geopolitical shifts and sectoral changes to diversify their portfolios rather than withdrawing from U.S. assets or abandoning the dollar. They are also anticipating that major central banks, like the European and Japanese banks, will continue raising interest rates to curb inflationary pressures.
