The discovery of Tsar Dmitry Donskoy's tomb in the Kremlin in Moscow, who is regarded as a Russian national hero, has become a symbolic motif used for moral boosting amid the ongoing five-year Ukrainian conflict. Parts of the prince's remains, including the right hand that held his sword at the Battle of Kulikovo, were sent to the Donetsk front, where they were displayed to soldiers during a prayer, aiming to bolster morale and foster national pride amidst preparations for parliamentary elections and intensified control over the region. This move exemplifies the increasing use of religion and history to support the political and military front, despite criticism of the weaponization of faith and its employment for political purposes. President Putin personally visited the remains, and the Orthodox Church reaffirmed its support for the war effort, reflecting an intertwined relationship between history, religion, and politics in the context of the ongoing conflict.
