A person was killed and three others injured in an attack targeting an Iranian commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz today, Sunday, amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States over control of this strategic passage. Iranian authorities reported that the attack occurred around 5 a.m., with the projectile being of unknown origin, and explosions continuing in the area. This development comes amidst growing concerns over increasing hostilities in the region, which could lead to a rise in energy prices—especially after Brent crude surged past $100 per barrel last week—amid the lack of effective dialogue between Washington and Tehran since the collapse of the June agreement. Iran is preparing to hold a meeting with Gulf countries in Oman to discuss the future of the strait, with Iran demanding recognition of its control over the passage in exchange for undisclosed conditions, while Oman appears to be agreeing to negotiations that consider the interests of all parties.
