Al-Ahsa Winter Season lasts 60 days
The date palm harvesting season in Al-Ahsa has begun, lasting approximately 60 days. It starts with the harvesting of the “Sheshi” variety on August 20th and continues until mid-October to harvest the “Ruziz” varieties. The season is expected to be abundant and of high quality, with calls to review the auction site and improve the seasonal operational system. The head of the Al-Ahsa Dates Market demands reorganizing the auction site to be centrally located within the farms, rather than on the outskirts of the city, to enhance trader access and increase the market value of the dates. He emphasized the importance of harvest timing, noting that early or late harvesting affects date quality. He also pointed to advancements in auction management, improvements in display methods, and the quality of packaging, along with efforts to localize seasonal labor and educate farmers on the importance of maintaining quality from the farm to the market. The expert stressed that the quality of dates depends on careful attention to seasonal differences and the correct selection of fruits, as well as developing marketing systems to boost the economic value of Al-Ahsa dates.
