France updates platform restriction policies
France is working on drafting a new bill aimed at restricting the use of social media networks by children under 15 years old, after the French Constitutional Council declared a previous version of the law unconstitutional. The proposed legislation focuses on reducing digital functions that may contribute to children's addiction, such as autoplay videos, sending nighttime notifications, and communication with unknown accounts. There is an exception for the age group between 13 and 15, allowing them to use these platforms with parental consent. This effort is part of broader European initiatives to protect minors online, with future proposals from the European Commission that would enable teenagers aged 13 to 15 to access social networks with parental approval, potentially helping to regulate children and youths' access to social media.
