Hugo Broos, the coach of the South African national team, stated that his team's loss to Canada with a score of 1-0 would be his last appearance in the World Cup, potentially ending his career that has spanned over five decades as a player and coach. The defeat in Los Angeles was decisive, with Steven Oustaquio scoring in the second minute of stoppage time, just after the team had achieved historic milestones by reaching the knockout stages for the first time in its history. Broos, who is 74 years old, confirmed that he intends to conclude his participation as a World Cup coach but has not yet decided on his professional future, expressing his desire to spend time with his family in Belgium. Broos has been leading the South African team since 2021, successfully rebuilding the squad and achieving its first group stage qualification since 2010, despite an unfavorable start to the tournament.
