Yasser Al-Misehal, President of the Saudi Football Federation, announced his resignation following the national team’s exit from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The team earned only two points and finished at the bottom of the group. He affirmed that his resignation comes despite strong support from the leadership, and that he bears responsibility for the disappointing performance of Saudi football in the tournament. He also indicated that he will step down to make way for a new phase, while remaining prepared to support the future development of sports in Saudi Arabia.
