Fifty Members of the European Parliament from 13 countries have called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the awarding of the first version of the "FIFA Peace Award" to U.S. President Donald Trump. The award was presented to him by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in December. They urged for an independent review by FIFA's Ethics Committee to uncover the details related to the creation and granting of the award, emphasizing the need for this to be done swiftly and transparently. So far, the Ethics Committee has not opened an investigation into the matter, despite criticism regarding the criteria for receiving the award, with only the Norwegian Football Federation supporting it out of 211 federations.
