Mohamed Hani, the right-back for the Egyptian national team, scored an own goal in the match between Egypt and Australia in the round of 32 of the World Cup, repeating a rare negative record dating back to 1966. He now has two own goals in the tournament, after mistakenly scoring an own goal against Belgium as well. This event has only happened once before, with Bulgarian player Ivan Vasilev. The current edition of the World Cup is the one with the most own goals in history, totaling 13 goals.
