Deco's secret recruitment of Gordon to Barcelona
Barcelona's management successfully signed English player Anthony Gordon in complete secrecy, as part of the club's new transfer strategy focused on working silently and avoiding leaks. Sporting director Deco initiated a discreet operation in London in April, studying offensive options including Gordon, and held closed-door meetings with the player's agents to finalize the deal without revealing anything. Although the transfer cost nearly €80 million—hard to imagine at the time—Deco showed great confidence in Gordon's abilities, especially his ability to play as a central striker, which made him the preferred choice despite competition from other names. Deco completed the negotiations privately in May, and the deal ultimately went through, making Gordon one of the season's breakout stars. He demonstrated his ability to press, create chances, and score goals, having been relatively unknown before joining Barcelona.
