Arena advances after 75-minute lead
Sabalenka, the world's number one tennis player, has advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 US Open after defeating American Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-3 in a match that lasted an hour and 15 minutes. Sabalenka has not won a tournament since her back-to-back titles at Indian Wells and Miami in March, and she is aiming for her third consecutive Grand Slam title. Both players faced challenges on their serve, with Sabalenka losing 4 of 6 break opportunities to her opponent, but she managed to clinch the match successfully. Sabalenka will face either Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk or Czech Linda Noskova in the quarter-finals, vying to win the title to retain her world number one ranking and secure her third consecutive major championship.
