The article focused on the continued reliance of the ADNOC Professional League for the 2026-2027 season on foreign referees, noting that this season has seen the participation of 7 foreign referees in 7 matches so far. This is compared to 92 matches officiated by foreign referees in previous seasons, with a total cost of 15.64 million AED. The report clarified that the use of foreign referees is increasing significantly, especially with the rising number of matches and overall expenses. Last season, 51 matches were officiated at a cost of 8.67 million AED, marking the highest figure since the adoption of foreign referees in the league. Experts believe that relying on foreign referees has contributed to reducing protests and improving the management of sensitive matches. However, they emphasize the need to support and develop local referees’ skills to match international standards. The continued involvement of foreign referees raises questions about the development of domestic referees, with an indication that reliance on foreign officiating will persist as competition and major sporting events escalate.
