The list of candidates for the 2026 Yashin Award shows the absence of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for the first time in three years. This follows his transfer to Manchester City in the summer of 2025, where he played 43 matches, conceding 41 goals, and winning the FA Cup and League Cup titles. Donnarumma had previously won the Yashin Award in 2025 after contributing to Paris Saint-Germain's first-ever Champions League victory, making him one of only two goalkeepers to have won the award twice. These changes come amid the exclusion of Italian goalkeepers from the list of nominees, which includes 10 goalkeepers from various leagues around the world.
