Al-Aqtawni fans bait Neves over Jota anniversary
During a match between Al-Hilal and Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Pro League, there was an incident of provocation by Al-Taawoun fans directed at Al-Hilal midfielder, Portuguese player Ruben Neves. The fans repeatedly chanted the name of his late teammate, Diego Jota, during the game. They aimed to psychologically influence Neves, who responded calmly, demonstrating respect and awareness through his demeanor and by raising his hand to the sky. After the match, Neves expressed his displeasure with the behavior, hoping that these fans would refrain from such provocations—especially on the anniversary of Jota’s death in a tragic car accident last year. That event had a profound impact on Neves, who shared a close friendship with Jota.
