Manchester City Conviction and Guardiola
Manchester City’s conviction for serious financial misconduct between 2009 and 2018 casts a shadow over coach Pep Guardiola's legacy, despite him not being personally charged with any violations. Guardiola has led the club since 2016, securing 16 trophies—including the Champions League—and reaching its peak in the 2022-2023 season with a historic treble. However, an independent committee confirmed that the club had used fictitious contracts to inflate revenues and reduce costs, resulting in a financial impact exceeding £900 million. This may affect the evaluation of Guardiola’s achievements and his history with the team. Guardiola has affirmed his support for Manchester City and denied the allegations, but he currently faces the possibility of appealing the sanctions, which revives the debate over his legacy and accomplishments with the club.
