The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has received the documents sent by Real Madrid regarding the case involving former Spanish referee Enríquez Negreira, related to Barcelona's payments to a company owned by Negreira, the former vice-president of the Spanish referees committee. This step is part of a file opened by UEFA in 2023, and it is noted that the case is still under investigation, with the results of the Spanish judicial procedures awaited. UEFA confirmed that the case will not be closed at this time and that it is focused on the best interests of European football, amid improving relations between the Union and Real Madrid since the February 2024 agreement, which aims to promote sporting integrity and financial sustainability for clubs.
