Al-Owais' second tiebreaker differs
Mohammad Al-Owais, the goalkeeper of the Saudi national team, delivered an impressive performance during the penalty shootout in the Gulf Cup semi-final against Qatar. He saved two Qatari penalties and directly contributed to Saudi Arabia's 3-2 victory and their advancement to the final. This was the second time Al-Owais has participated in a penalty shootout, after his experience with Al-Ahli FC in the 2020 AFC Champions League, where he did not intervene during the shootout. Al-Owais finished the match level with Khaled Thumama in terms of international appearances, reaching his 68th cap with the national team. He is now close to ranking second among the most-capped goalkeepers in the history of the Saudi national team, behind Mohamed Al-Deayea, who has 172 matches.
