Argentine University Honors Messi in Farewell Message
The University of Buenos Aires in Argentina honored football star Lionel Messi by granting him the title of "Honorary Doctor" in recognition of his sports career and achievements with the Argentine national team. He becomes the first football player to receive this honor from the university. The university presented this award, which was unanimously approved by the Supreme Council, as a recognition of his creativity and humility, serving as an example of national excellence, although the title does not grant any academic rights. Messi is considered the most prominent player in Argentina's history, holding records for the number of matches played (207 before the match against Benin) and goals scored (125). He led the team to victory in the 2022 World Cup and twice in the Copa América, and his farewell to the national team is regarded as a national celebratory occasion.
