European players face off for AFCON 2025 title
The article discusses the upcoming session of the International Sports Arbitration Court ("CAS") to review the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation against the decision of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Committee, which stripped Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and awarded the trophy to Morocco starting from March 2026. The case follows a highly controversial final held last January in Rabat, which saw chaotic events and protests after a Senegal goal was disallowed and a penalty awarded to Morocco in stoppage time, leading to protests and security issues. The court session, chaired by a French arbitrator and conducted in French, involves several parties, and a final decision is not expected for several weeks. There is also the possibility of appealing the ruling to the Swiss Federal Court. The outcome of this case will officially determine the team crowned the champion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, as the result of that match remains a legal dispute.
