Motsibi hints at biennial CHAN restart
The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, announced that he is considering reorganizing the Africa Cup of Nations to be held every two years instead of every four years. This follows the initial plan to hold the tournament every four years starting from 2028, aiming to align it with the international football calendar. The proposal to change the tournament's schedule from every two years to every four years has sparked controversy and protests, especially after CAF incurred financial losses amounting to one billion dollars due to the previous adjustment. This comes amid growing criticism, particularly following scandals surrounding the last edition's final. Currently, the dates and hosts for the upcoming edition are set from June 19 to July 18, 2027, in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, with uncertainty surrounding the hosting of the 2028 edition.
