Football's financial impact on fans
Football has experienced a massive economic transformation over the past twenty years, as transfer fees have increased, and the costs of merchandise and tickets have risen, making following the favorite team more expensive for fans. In 2006, a major player’s transfer fee was around 45 million euros, whereas now it exceeds 145 million euros. The prices of jerseys and tickets have also surged significantly, with tickets for major matches reaching thousands of euros. Meanwhile, club bonuses and financial rewards have gradually doubled, both in continental competitions and the World Cup. Despite the rise in revenues and profits, fans still face greater financial challenges due to increased costs related to travel and accommodation, which heighten match attendance and impact the fans' relationship with the sport.
