Australian league starts as Auckland begins milestone
The 2026 Australian Football League season has begun, with clubs facing significant economic challenges and widespread tactical changes. Despite the departure of Oakland's coach, Steve Corica, and adjustments in team lineups, the team remains a strong contender for the title, especially with a striker like Sam Cosgrove. Several clubs, including Melbourne Victory and Western Sydney Wanderers, have made changes to their coaching staff, while others are aiming to improve their results after difficult previous seasons. Financial challenges also loom, with a salary cap of three million Australian dollars, emphasizing the importance of attracting local talent, highlighted by the sale of Australian player Oier Mabil to American clubs for around 1.5 million dollars. The season kicks off with a match between Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.
