Gulf Cup Missed Chances
The Saudi national team won the Gulf Cup, but an unplanned decision made during the final celebration sparked widespread controversy. The Saudi Football Federation, based on a suggestion from Al Hilal club's management, decided to hold a guard of honor for Al Hilal's player, Mohamed Al Owais, as he carried the trophy, which many considered a serious mistake. There were significant economic opportunities to organize a grand event that could generate millions in profits and showcase the relationship between clubs and the football federation, but the idea was discarded. The players were left feeling disappointed, especially those who didn't get the chance to participate in the guard of honor, reflecting a poorly considered decision and reviving negative images of past controversies in sports celebrations.
