FIFA urges Infantino after Trump aid
The President of the International Football Association (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, faced internal pressure within the organization to reevaluate the Peace Award that was granted to former U.S. President Donald Trump. The criticism stemmed from concerns that the award politicized football and conflicted with FIFA regulations prohibiting political interference in sports matters. The matter has been referred to the Social Responsibility Committee to establish strict criteria for selecting eligible recipients, with expectations to modify the criteria so that it is limited to sports and community figures within football, excluding any political personalities. This is intended to avoid internal and external embarrassment. Final recommendations are expected to be announced before the council meeting in Qatar in December.
