FIFA considers dropping Peace Award after Trump criticism

FIFA is studying the possibility of canceling the "FIFA Peace Award," which was awarded for the first time to U.S. President Donald Trump in 2018. This comes amid escalating internal and external criticism demanding an end to presenting the award to politicians. This review follows FIFA Council meetings in Zurich, where the issue was assigned to the "Soccer Social Responsibility Committee" to assess its viability and the potential for its modification or abolition. The award was originally launched to honor individuals who contribute to supporting peace, but it has faced criticism due to its association with political stances and its close ties to Trump, especially amid increasing objections from human rights organizations and sports entities calling for the separation of sports and politics. Final recommendations will be announced before the December meeting in Doha, amid political and electoral pressure on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to reconsider the award's status.
