German Alexander Zverev secured the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in his career after beating Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 6–4, 7–5 at the Vienna tournament to reach the quarterfinals. He will replace Italy’s Jannik Sinner at the top of the rankings from Monday, November 2, becoming the first German to hold the No. 1 spot since Boris Becker in 1991, ending a 35-year gap. Zverev benefited from Sinner’s absence due to a knee injury, while his rise followed a season in which he won his first two Grand Slam titles.
