Al-Ahli’s 1–6 defeat to Al-Shabab in the Saudi league sparked a wave of ridicule on social media. Al-Shabab had repeated the same scoreline it recorded in 2008, but this time there was no walkout or controversy over whether the teams had their full complement of players. Yannick Carrasco scored a hat-trick in the match, which Al-Ahli finished with ten men after goalkeeper Abdulrahman Al-Sanbi was sent off. Al-Youm newspaper reported that Al-Ahli’s management was planning an urgent meeting to discuss coach Marino Pusic’s future, amid calls for him to leave. No final decision has been made.
