Valdano warns Vinícius

Jorge Valdano warned that the strong performances of Vinícius Júnior’s teammates—particularly Ivorian player Diomande—could put the Brazilian’s place in the starting lineup at risk. Diomande has scored four goals and provided four assists in his six matches since returning from the international break. The warning came after Real Madrid’s 3–0 win over Racing Santander, a match Vinícius missed through suspension. Valdano said Vinícius would have to win back the place his teammates had taken. José Mourinho praised Vinícius and said the team needed him, but did not guarantee he would start against AEK Athens. Vinícius will serve the remainder of his suspension in the league match against Valencia.
