Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes denied that there was any tension between him and manager Michael Carrick, expressing confidence in Carrick and his coaching staff. He said his place on the bench had been a normal tactical decision. His comments came after United beat Roma 3–2 in the Champions League, ending a run of nine consecutive matches without a win. Fernandes had criticised Carrick’s tactics after the team’s 4–1 loss to Como, but stressed that this had not changed his aim of winning every match.
