Fortress Shields Hakimi
The Confederation of African Football has nominated Achraf Hakimi, Brahim Díaz and Ismaël Saibari for the 2026 African Player of the Year award, raising concerns that Moroccan votes could be split—as happened with Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembélé in the Ballon d’Or race. But Hakimi’s achievements, including titles with Paris Saint-Germain and his Ballon d’Or nomination, give him an advantage. Votes for his three Senegalese rivals could also be divided among them. The awards ceremony will take place in Lagos on December 7, with national team coaches and captains, media representatives and CAF experts taking part in the voting.
