Emirati badminton player Rayan Malhan won the country’s first-ever gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games, bringing the UAE’s total to two medals, following equestrian Omar Al Marzooqi’s silver in Buenos Aires in 2018. Fares Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary General of the UAE National Olympic Committee, praised the achievement, calling it the result of investing in talent. He also pointed to a strategy to prepare athletes for the Dakar 2026 and Los Angeles 2028 Games. At the Dakar competition, Khalifa Al Kaabi and Huda Al Ali will compete in the round of 32 in archery. Boxer Muath Wael will face Ghanaian Robert Amartey in the 70kg quarterfinal, while Sultan Al Hammadi prepares for the road race.
