British boxer Zach Miller suffered swelling and cuts to his head after an accidental head clash during his bout against compatriot Gully Bawer for the vacant British featherweight title in Manchester. Although he was examined in the ninth round, the referee stopped the fight in the tenth on the doctor’s advice. Bawer then won by unanimous decision, with scores of 96–95, 97–95 and 96–94, and was crowned champion. Miller’s fight being allowed to continue before the bout was stopped drew criticism from fans and observers, who felt it had put his safety at risk.
