US transit costs surprise World Cup visitors
2026 World Cup fans faced high additional transportation costs when traveling between American stadiums, with round-trip train tickets in some areas costing $98 and $80, despite typical travel fares ranging from $12.90 to $20. This comes after previous host countries like Qatar and Russia initiated efforts to facilitate free movement via public transportation to enhance spectator convenience, whereas currently, there’s criticism over imposing extra financial burdens on fans. Authorities confirm that the fare increases are meant to cover security expenses and expand train services, although some local officials believe that such costs should be borne by FIFA.
