Arab referee facing deportation before World Cup
Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan faced suffering when he was denied entry into the United States during preparations for the 2026 World Cup, despite holding a diplomatic visa and being the first referee from Somalia to participate in the tournament. He was deported from a U.S. airport to Turkey without any clarification of the reasons, amid a crisis related to immigration and visa procedures for the participating delegations. This incident is part of the complications facing the tournament, which is being hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico between June and July 2026.
