Somali World Cup ref denied US entry
The American authorities prevented Somali referee Omar Artan, who was chosen by FIFA to officiate the World Cup matches, from entering the country despite having completed the travel procedures and holding a diplomatic passport. Artan faced difficulties in obtaining a visa, but the Somali embassy in Nairobi supported him, enabling him to acquire the necessary documents. However, the United States considered these measures insufficient and decided to send him back immediately upon his arrival. Artan is one of the most prominent African referees, having officiated the 2025 African Champions League final and received the title of Best Referee in the continent.
