Mexico commits to secure World Cup opening
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed that her country is capable of ensuring that the 2026 World Cup opening ceremony takes place in a peaceful atmosphere, despite ongoing teachers' protests. She pointed out that authorities are taking measures to protect against provocations, and that they will work to organize the event in a manner that guarantees security and calm. These statements come amid union threats to organize protests during the opening match, and as tensions escalate over teachers' demands concerning salaries and pension system reforms.
