FIFA bars Somali referee Artan from World Cup
Somali referee Omar Artan has been barred from entering the United States, leading to his exclusion from officiating at the 2026 World Cup matches, where he was set to become the first referee from his country to oversee games in the tournament. FIFA stated that Artan will be unable to train or officiate matches as a result of this ban. The case has sparked mixed reactions, highlighting the symbolic significance of the referee's role and raising concerns about how such decisions may impact the values of fairness and integrity in football.
