America rejects Arten's World Cup leadership
Somali international referee Omar Artan was barred from entering the United States while attending the 2026 World Cup, due to routine screening procedures that revealed he was not eligible to enter despite holding a valid visa. FIFA confirmed that it does not have the authority to influence the decision of the American authorities and that the host government retains the right to determine who enters the country. Artan, 34 years old, is considered a reputable referee in Africa and was appointed by FIFA to officiate matches in the tournament scheduled to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
